Final Project

Now that we have completed our web project focusing on the elements and principles of design, we can use our knowledge to incorporate the elements and principles into our own art.  Each student or group will create a piece of art that contains quality examples of two elements of design and one principle of design .  The inclusion of the elements and principles should enhance the artwork, not distract from it.  This project can be completed using any media that our class has used so far this semester.

Before you start creating, take some time to brainstorm ideas and sketch them out on paper.  This is a good time to work out how you will incorporate the different elements and principles while still creating an interesting and harmonious piece.  After you have sketched out your ideas, we will have a meeting to discuss how you would like to create your project.  And then it will be up to you to create!

After you have finished your artwork, you will be writing a short essay.  This essay should focus on two criteria: it should provide a definition for each element or principle used in the artwork and should explain how and why you have used the elements and principles in your artwork.  This essay should be approximately 1 page double spaced.

Please review the Final Project Rubric for more detailed project criteria.

Sharing Our Knowledge

After our class has completed the final projects, we will be creating a book that will share our knowledge of the elements and principles of design with others.  The book will feature the artwork created by the class, along with the descriptive essays.  The combination of visual imagery with the definitions and descriptions of the elements and principles of design will turn the book into a powerful learning tool.
